To honor International Women’s Day 2021, Natura &Co (Avon, Natura, The Body Shop, and Aesop) and GlobeScan hosted a panel discussion and online forum on Addressing Gender Inequality in the Workplace and discussed how to make greater progress on SDG5.
During this innovative dialogue we focused our discussion on how to accelerate progress on gender inequality and how women can be better supported in the workplace. We started with an expert panel discussion led by Alys Key from The i Paper with special guests Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of UN Global Compact, Charmian Love, Co-Founder of B Corp UK, Alessandra Orofino, Activist and Co-Founder and Executive Director of Nossas, and Angela Cretu, CEO of Avon.

This was followed by an interactive, text-based discussion moderated by GlobeScan. Forum participants were able to answer some follow up questions to our expert panel discussion and share their thoughts and examples on how we can accelerate progress towards achieving SDG5.
We were joined online by more than 250 people, from 25 countries, posting 140 comments. Participants were encouraged to help us uncover ways to drive more progress at scale on this issue of social justice. Women are not only the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, but they are also the backbone of recovery in communities and the key to a better future. The collective contributions and examples shared by participants helped to make this a truly celebratory and impactful discussion.
Natura &Co’s Commitment to Life
In June 2020, Natura &Co – the fourth largest beauty group in the world, and the world’s largest certified B Corporation – unveiled its Commitment to Life for 2030, a comprehensive sustainability plan laying out its actions to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues, including the climate crisis and protecting the Amazon, defending human rights and ensuring equality and inclusion throughout its network, and embracing circularity and regeneration by 2030.
Within its Defend Human Rights and Be Human-Kind pillar of the Commitment to Life for 2030, Natura &Co laid out its plan to address gender inequality spanning several key goals including going beyond the UN SDG target of 30% women in leadership positions by increasing its own goal to 50% by 2023. It has also committed to ensuring gender parity and equitable pay amongst its entire workforce by 2023.
