GlobeScan Announces the Appointment of New Board Member

t whelan30th June 2017 – GlobeScan is pleased to announce the appointment of Tensie Whelan as a new member of its Board of Directors.

Doug Miller, Chairman at GlobeScan said: “It is with great pleasure that I welcome Tensie Whelan as a new independent Director of GlobeScan. Tensie brings unique perspective and experience to our company, from her 15 years as President of the Rainforest Alliance in New York and more recently as the Director of the Center for Sustainable Business at NYU’s Stern Business School. She has proven herself as a successful social entrepreneur, communicator and now thought-leader on the evolving role of business in society. We expect that Tensie will be a strong contributor to GlobeScan’s growth strategy and long-term success.”

As President of the Rainforest Alliance from 2000-2015, Tensie grew the respected international NGO from an annual budget of $4.5 million and 45 staff into a $50 million operation employing 400 staff. Over this time, the organization’s impact grew from 10 million acres to 180 million acres under sustainable management in over 60 countries. She and her team achieved these impressive results by working collaboratively with a wide range of business leaders, investors, academics, and leaders in NGOs/Civil Society, governments and multilateral agencies around the world.”

Tensie’s recognition of the vital role business needs to play in meeting global challenges led her to NYU’s Stern Business School and the founding of the Center for Sustainable Business in 2016. As the Center’s Founding Director, Tensie has been heavily involved in developing its CEO Advisory Board, sustainable business curricula, and a wide range of innovative thought leadership platforms and outreach initiatives.”

Before joining the Rainforest Alliance in 2000, Tensie ran her own management consultancy for three years, advising a range of NGOs and not-for-profits. Prior to that she played leadership and senior communications roles in the League of Conservation Voters, the National Audubon Society, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and the World Wildlife Fund.”

On joining the GlobeScan Board, Tensie Whelan said: “I have come to the conclusion that due to many converging forces, the current for-profit business model needs to evolve quickly. As a result, GlobeScan’s corporate purpose of ‘Re-defining what it means to be in business’ makes perfect sense to me. I look forward to making a contribution to GlobeScan’s continuing success.”
