Webinar Recap | Findings from the 2017 GSS Survey on Climate Change

We recently hosted two webinar on results from the latest edition of the GlobeScan/SustainAbility Survey, which focused on climate change and progress made on the Paris Agreement.
GSS is one the longest-running expert surveys on sustainability-related topics of its kind. In our latest report we analyze the viewpoints of about 400 global sustainability experts on a range of questions including:

  • Almost two years after the Paris Agreement was signed, how much progress has been made against its goals and what barriers may pose the greatest risk to its successful implementation?
  • Which institutions have made the largest contribution to advance the Paris Agreement goals?
  • Which companies have gained the widest recognition for their leadership on climate change? What are the factors and corporate strategies driving their perceived leadership and what are the most effective instruments for companies to address climate change?

Our first webinar, held November 9 for an Americas/EMEA audience, was led by Mark Lee, Executive Director, SustainAbility, and Eric Whan, Director, GlobeScan, and were joined by special guests Jenny Chu, Head of Energy Productivity Initiatives, The Climate Group, and Val Smith, Director and Global Head, Corporate Sustainability, Citi, who shared their valuable insights.
The second webinar, held November 22 for an Asia Pacific audience, was led by Wander Meijer, Asia Pacific Director, GlobeScan with special guests Rebecca Mikula-Wright, Climate Change & ESG Investment Consultant at the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC), and Jeanne Ng, Director, Group Sustainability at CLP Power Hong Kong, who was freshly back from attending COP23 in Bonn and was able to provide the latest insights from the conference.
During the discussion, Rebecca Mikula-Wright referenced two events her organization co-hosted with AIGCC in the second week of COP23. The first event, held Monday, November 13 as part of the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (GCA) Finance Dayhighlighted the practical actions that investors are taking to respond to the signals provided by the Paris Agreement. The second event, held Wednesday November 15, focused on the role and response of investors to the TCFD. Web streams for each event are available here and here
