Global Perceptions of Clean Technologies Report

Tracking Global Momentum on Clean Technologies

This report with Chatham House reveals how clean technologies like solar and EVs are shaping the future. Discover key trends, adoption barriers, and insights to guide businesses and policymakers toward a sustainable transition.

In our latest report with Chatham House we examine how clean technologies such as solar panels and electric vehicles are gaining interest and traction worldwide. The research spans across 33 countries, building on our 2024 baseline across eight markets to reveal emerging trends, shifting attitudes, and adoption barriers.

Our findings show that while many consumers have already invested in clean tech, affordability and practicality remain key obstacles to wider uptake. This report dives deep into regional, generational, and cultural differences, offering insights that matter for businesses, policymakers, and sustainability leaders.

The research also explores public willingness to purchase Chinese-made clean technologies and support government procurement of these products. Though people in the Global South are more open to these solutions than those in the Global North, the data uncovers consistent or growing acceptance of Chinese-manufactured solutions, signaling that geopolitical concerns may be giving way to pragmatic choices as demand for clean energy accelerates globally.

  • At least two in three people across regions are interested in, looking to buy, or have already bought clean technologies, though affordability and practicality are barriers across countries surveyed.
  • Around half of consumers are at least somewhat likely to consider buying Chinese-made clean technologies.
  • Almost 70% of people globally support their government buying Chinese-made clean technologies
