What are the opportunities for businesses, investors and partners?
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (the SDGs) are ambitious and will take huge collaborative and international effort to achieve. Government action alone is not enough. So, how can the private sector actively contribute and what can be done to ramp up the participation of businesses around the world?
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the sustainability reporting standard setter, has joined forces with global power company Enel to research how business reporting can help deliver the 2030 Agenda. The project will look at how to strengthen the role of transparency and reporting in driving concrete change – in terms of new business models and partnerships.

Forum 1: Establishing the State of Play
Date: 8th October 2019
Through the first phase of the project, businesses, policy makers, NGOs and other stakeholders will be asked to share their perspectives on the current state of affairs and help develop a vision on how companies and governments should work together.
Questions to be addressed will include:
- What is the impact and value of transparency?
- What’s the role of reporting in delivering the 2030 Agenda?
- What are the challenges and successes of reporting?
- How can reporting lead to new opportunities – new business models and new partnerships?
Forum 2: Scoping the Vision
Date: 14th November 2019
A second forum will be held on Thursday 14th November, building on the outcome of the first session. During this second conversation the focus will be on developing a vision around what needs to be done to strengthen the role of SDG reporting to enhance sustainable business practices and how to stimulate new partnerships and business models.

Forum Format
GlobeScan will be hosting this project on its collaboration forum platform and will moderate the online discussions with an expert multi-stakeholder panel convened by GRI and Enel.
To enable participation from around the world, each online discussion will take place across two session times, at 10:30 CET and 16:30 CET on 8th October 2019. Participants are welcome to take part in more than one session.
